There are face masks and then there are organic anti aging face mask creams. The difference between the two is in the ingredients. Read the ingredients list of a face mask to understand if you are buying the right one. Just like when you buy an anti-aging cream and look for ingredients like antioxidants, retinol, and hyaluronic acid, same ingredients can be found in an anti-aging mask as well.
Using plant based or herbal masks (and products) are always my preference. I believe that nature has provided us with everything, so a cure to anything lies in her. If ever in doubt, search for herbal products online, read and do your research. You will find the one best suited to your needs. Also remember to choose the one best suited to your skin type.
In general, the basic purpose of any mask is to provide cleansing. They remove environmental pollution, excess oil, dead skin cells more efficiently than toners or everyday cleansers. It is so, because the application of a mask requires it to be laid on the face for an extended period of time, and mostly in the form of a thick layer. This generates inner warmth and delivers the nutrients deeper into the skin, by penetrating the pores.
Top Benefits of an Anti-Aging Mask Are:
Ingredients like Hyaluronic acid provide intense hydration by attracting moisture from the surrounding environment and locking it into the skin. This smooths and plumps up the fine lines and wrinkles and hence they are less noticeable.
Providing firmness is a key benefit of an anti-aging face mask. Ingredients like retinol and clays suck up the excessive oils, remove dead skin cells and tighten pores. Making it feel softer, smoother, brighter and younger.
Weather antioxidants, clays or retinol, all these help in skin tone correction and as a result the skin looks younger, brighter and fresh.
When dead skin cells are removed from the surface of the skin, it ultimately starts looking younger as fine lines, dark spots and pigmentation, all are lightened with the removal of the top skin cells. Retinols and clays, both are effective in doing that.
Hydration, exfoliation, firmness and skin tone correction all make the skin look and feel smooth and younger.
It’s a fact that we all dread aging, and also that with each passing moment it is happening.
Nature plays its role and affects our skin externally. Pollution, harsh sun and weather changes are natural factors but we add to the process too. By adopting an unhealthy lifestyle; stress, lack of sleep, unhealthy eating, alcohol and smoking, we accelerate the skin’s aging process internally. As a result, it goes under numerous changes and shows us the signs of aging in the form of decline in collagen production, decrease in suppleness, dullness, dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, hollowed cheeks and eye sockets becoming more defined.
If we start taking care of our skin on time and use anti-aging masks once or twice weekly, besides our everyday cleanser-toner-serum-moisturizer-sunscreen (phew) routine, I have faith that we can significantly manage it.
